Meet Dr. Bloomquist

Dr. Bloomquist is a leading restorative and cosmetic dentist for Gig Harbor and the surrounding areas, voted Best Cosmetic Dentist of South Sound. Here’s her journey:

My Road to Dentistry:

My father was a dentist– and a good one. I grew up knowing a little something about dentistry through the conversations my parents had. I was even recruited to spend many summers working in his office assigned to stuffing statements, billing insurance, cleaning, instrument sterilization and dental assisting.

After graduating from South Kitsap High School, I attended Washington State University and the University of Michigan to complete my undergraduate education. I received a Bachelor of Science degree with a Dental Hygiene degree in 1994. I returned to the Northwest and worked in several dental offices in the Bellevue and Seattle area. It was during that time of 6 years that the vision and realization of wanting to become a dentist took shape. I knew being a Dental Hygienist was not the end of the road for me personally.

“Committed to the higher standard.”

I attended Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska and graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) and numerous accolades in May of 2004. Not only did I leave Omaha with a valuable degree, I met my husband Joe Simpson (also a dentist) in dental school and we were married on graduation day. We began practice for a very short time in his father’s office in Fort Collins, Colorado. We both soon decided that we needed to pursue our dream of opening a new office together.

SoundBridge Center for Dental Arts was opened in August 2005! It was a dream to work in a state of the art practice and have the responsibility of overseeing how the practice would grow from the “ground-up”. We made a commitment to the community and to the patients we see to continue to grow the practice and its philosophy with the ever changing advancements in dentistry. I stay up to date with continuing education by attending a minimum of 75 hours a year.

My world suffered a tremendous loss when my husband and business partner passed away from cancer in 2007. He was only able to enjoy his profession in our beautiful office for a short year and a half. I, and the SoundBridge Team, still live by the “committed to the higher standard” quote he believed in when he practiced dentistry every day.

Outside the dental world, I enjoy extensive travel, entertaining, hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing and spending time at the family lake cabin. I have an older sister Melany (also a dentist with her husband), and two brothers; Joe, who owns and outfits Missouri River Lodge in Wolf Creek Montana—a wonderful place to fly fish and hunt—and Willie, who has a professional baseball career that started in Seattle and is currently with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
