Sedation Dentistry

Everyone can benefit from sedation dentistry. Over 35 million Americans have some level of anxiety when it comes to going to the dentist. But for many, it is more than being afraid. Some of our patients have had a traumatic experience in a dental chair, while others come from a painful past. But regardless of your personal history, we are here to help. We understand that your fears may have kept you from a dentist, but there is no need to feel embarrassed. We are not here to judge you; we are here to help you and encourage you so that you can have the confidence a beautiful smile can bring. Imagine not being afraid to go to the dentist and being able to complete all your dental care in one appointment! Oral sedation dentistry protocols have been used safely for over 30 years with millions of dental procedures. Before starting any treatments, we review your medical history and explain how Sedation Dentistry can work for you. We want you to feel good about going forward towards a healthy, new smile.

On the day of your appointment, you’ll take medication – a pill, and then a companion will bring you to the office. Our experienced clinical team will make certain that you’re relaxed and completely comfortable and we monitor you closely while you’re sedated. Many patients feel NO DISCOMFORT whatsoever during and after treatment, and have little or no memory of the visit.

Porcelain Crowns

The most common crown restoration placed by most general dentists today utilizes a metal lining covered with porcelain. These types of restorations are not as natural in appearance because light is not able to pass through porcelain-metal crowns as it does with a natural tooth, resulting in an opaque or flat looking tooth. Often these types of traditional crowns leave a dark or gray line next to the gum-line. Our talented team is proud to offer a natural looking alternative: all-ceramic non-metal crowns! With these newer restorations you will notice the "life-like" appearance that mimics natural teeth and does not produce the black gum line so common with so many porcelain-metal crowns.

Metal Free Fillings

If your teeth are filled with dark, gray metal fillings, you’ve got more to worry about than your appearance. Metal amalgams can damage teeth. Temperature sensitive, amalgams expand with heat and contract with cold. This movement weakens the tooth wall, leading to fractures, and also allows bacteria to enter and cause decay. Metal fillings contain mercury. Tooth-colored composite fillings are a safer, stronger, more attractive and more enduring alternative to metal. They conservatively restore your teeth to strength and your smile to beauty.

Implants

Implants are changing the way people live! With implants, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy life. Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. A person with implants regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours have been preserved. Implants consist of small titanium posts which are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition to restoring a natural appearance in the mouth, implants can help prevent bone deterioration, which typically occurs when teeth are missing.

Neuromuscular TMJ Treatment

Neuromuscular dentistry goes far beyond traditional dentistry. It addresses the relationships related to the body's range of motion and posture. We have the ability to objectively measure muscle function and correlate the relationship of the teeth to a proper jaw posture and its movements and function. We recommend a comprehensive analysis and evaluation in order to assist the doctor in accurately diagnosing and developing a treatment plan that can best meet your needs for long-term, optimal dental health and comfort.

Finding your neuromuscular jaw position is the most important step before a final restorative/orthodontic phase is started. This is to prevent muscular imbalances that could lead to instability of the teeth, bone and posture. When the harmony of the teeth, facial muscles, and temporomandibular joints no longer exists, symptoms of what has been identified as TMJ/TMJD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction) arise. Some of the symptoms are:

The restoration of the entire mouth to its normal form and function must take into account occlusion, the chewing muscles and the supporting hard and soft tissue structures of the temporomandibular joints. Technology allows us to document the neuromuscular component to this restoration process. To perform optimal neuromuscular dentistry, we use computerized electro-diagnostic instrumentation.

To properly diagnose and treat you, we use an instrument called TENS. This is a computerized diagnostic tool which records the position of the jaw and muscles and allows the doctor to effectively treat neuromuscular pain.

Please feel free to contact the office with any questions about neuromuscular dentistry or to schedule an appointment.

Bridges

Missing teeth are the source of a variety of problems. Emotionally, they can cause significant embarrassment, a loss of self-esteem and lowered confidence. Physically, they can lead to gum disease, bite problems and speech difficulties. They can also restrict your ability to eat foods you enjoy as well as foods you need for optimal nutrition.

A bridge is a custom device anchored to neighboring teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth. When a lost tooth is replaced with bridgework, the teeth on either side of the missing one are prepared as crowns to serve as abutments to hold the prosthetic (replacement) tooth in place. Crowns and bridges are most commonly prepared from high quality materials such as semiprecious or precious metals, porcelain or a fused combination of the two. Aesthetics, function and tissue compatibility are considered when selecting the material most suitable for you.

Endodontics

With today's modern dental techniques, having root canals done by a dentist is no longer a scary experience. Drs. Simpson and Bloomquist are experienced in performing root canal therapy. Extensive decay, an accident, tooth fracture, or gum disease can kill teeth and cause a root canal symptom such as root canal pain or a dental abscess. However, regardless of the root canal cause, your teeth can be saved using modern therapy to do root canal treatment.

Periodontics

Periodontal treatment starts with prevention: regular cleanings and good hygeine habits are excellent precautions to take to avoid gum disease. The main cause of periodontal disease is bacteria in the form of a sticky, colorless plaque that constantly forms on your teeth; however, other factors can cause the disease or influence its progression. Scaling, root planing, and local delivery of antimicrobials can treat and prevent the progression of the disease. In some cases, surgical therapy or cosmetic solutions may be necessary to correct the damage from gum disease physically and cosmetically. Our team can evaluate your situation and present the best treatment options for you.

Hygiene

Preventative care is an integral part of our practice. Maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth and gums. Healthy teeth not only enable you to look and feel good, they make it possible to eat and speak properly. Good oral health is important to your overall well being. Our team is well trained in soft tissue laser techniques used in conjunction with “deep cleanings” to expedite healing of the gums and total bacterial reduction to stop the progress of gum and bone disease. Promoting health through preventative dentistry and educating our patients on good oral hygiene is the heart of our practice. Thorough examinations and professional cleanings allow us to identify problem areas and stop periodontal disease.

Children's Dentistry

Drs. Simpson and Bloomquist are committed to improving and maintaining the oral health of children and adolescents. Thanks to fluoride, dental sealants, and better dental habits, 55 percent of school-age children now have no cavities. The dramatic drop in cavities among children with regular dental care is due to regular visits to the dentist starting at an early age, professional teeth cleaning for children, proper tooth brushing habits, fluoride, and dental sealants. Our team is happy provide all aspects of preventative dental care and restorative dentistry for your children. We recommend that you begin bringing your children to the dentist for their first check up at age 2.5 to 3.0.
